Atlas SipSavi Spreads the Cheer of Hope During the Season

Atlas SipSavi, in partnership with Lankadeepa Online, took the spirit of the season – Hope, Love and Giving – to children in distressed areas, particularly to a deserving female-led family in Ja-Ela. Lasanthi, a young mother, lost her husband a couple of years ago, and she and her 3 children are in severely financially depressed circumstances. As her home is bordered on one side by the rail tracks and the other by a canal, which has sometimes seen crocodiles, Lasanthi is afraid to leave her young children alone to find work. She is part of a community of families living in underprivileged circumstances, but is somehow managing to ensure that her 3 young children survive.

Upon hearing about this remarkable woman, Atlas SipSavi decided to extend a helping hand to Lasanthi’s children and others living in this financially distressed community. We were able to donate 25 stationery giftpacks to Lasanthi’s 3 children, and other children living in the community. The children’s faces erupted in smiles and cheer as they received their giftpacks, which contained school stationary for the new year. The parents of these children too expressed their pleasure and stated that they had never received a helping hand like this. In addition to these donations, Atlas SipSavi has also distributed stationery to other kids in need during the festive season.

This partnership with Lankadeepa Online was a natural extension of the relief and support efforts already undertaken by Atlas SipSavi. As a movement that supports children and single parents from financially distressed backgrounds by facilitating and enabling access to a sound education, being able to positively touch the lives of Lasanthi and her 3 young children, along with the other children of the community, has warmed our hearts this season and brought hope to the dreams of these future leaders of Sri Lanka.
